Hedge your bets, for example if you have a good play on a dog and think they may win outright, take the points and the same wager on the moneyline, if you win you pick up 1-1/2 or so times your risk, but as long as they cover, you break even. That's a smart wager.

and NEVER EVER play makeup games!

I hate to see that you lost on Ace's picks. Actually I hate to see to that you paid to lose on someone's picks. I don't know what your goals are... hobby, spending cash, or early retirement, but there is enough good free information in this forum to make anyone a profit. The key is discipline! This is gambling, and you have to have an eye for riding when it's good and walking when it's not.

Follow the general concensus here, or pick
someone who consistently posts solid plays and follow them

stay away from the trick shit (parlays, teasers, etc.) books love that shit, it's easy money

set a standard, say 5% of your balance on regular plays and 10% on your best plays

Damn, an 8 game / 7 pt teaser on this weekends playoff NFL involving the sides and totals. All comes down to Jets +12.5 and over 40. I should have known better, broke my own personal rule by teasing the away underdog and it burnt me. Too bad cause it would have been nice to hit that one and make up for what has been a bad weekend. Pennington in the 2nd half sure didn't look like the QB we've watched this season, I don't know if he choked or nerves got to him, but he overthrew some easy passes with WR's sitting wide open on blown Raider coverages. Lesson learned, I will not be teasing the Titans in Oakland next weekend, this Raider offence is just way to explosive and I think they'll come out throwing next week. JOE TOASTER: Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. One of the nice things about this forum is that there are a lot of good people here who pull for each other & support each other. It looks like I will end up down 8 units (2 pending on Raiders & 1 on over.) Not horrendous, to be sure. But I am more angry at my lack of discipline than anything else. First there was my 1-5 NCAA picks yesterday. (I posted 1-7 early, and will stand by that record, but only ended up betting 6 games.) But I shouldn't have wasted -4.5 units on unproven capping theories. I had been down 4 units on Thursday and worked my way back to only -1.6 units. And today - I posted yesterday that I liked both FB favs. But when I checked the board today, it seemed almost everyone was grabbing the points w/ SF. So I took what looked like an easy - and popular - 'Over' bet. You know what happened there. Point is, I'm more out of sync than anything else. I WILL get it together again tomorrow. I've noticed that especially with the better teams such as Dallas, Sacramento and New Jersey the line tends to increase the closer it gets to game time. I play on BOS and they posted some of the lines last night about 30 minutes after the last NBA game. I got Dallas -6 and Phoenix -3. If know your are going to take the favorite, consider placing your wager as soon as you can. On the other side, when playing the dogs I wait until game time. Sometimes this strategy backfires, but most of the time it seems to work in my favor. I have not tracked this. It is just an observation. Hope this info helps some of you.

YES The play would've counted. The line was 182 everywhere that day...First Fidelity didn't have that game yet when I went there to get lines. SO the question is WHY did DIMA post NETS over as his POD if he didn't want it? IF he wasn't sure it would count without any line posted? Why didn't Dima ASK the board if there would be a line on the Nets game?. IF a line isn't posted the logical thing to do is ask about it. Isn't it? NO, he just went on and posted NBA POD NETS OVER and when the game LOST he posted another NBA POD in essence CHANGING IT...Go read RULES as THAT IS NOT ALLOWED....

I'm sorry I didn't sit and stare all day long at First Fidelity on Friday afternoon till they had a line on that game so I could post it at NASA. THE GAME CLEARLY WENT UNDER and that is all that matters to me. Line was 182 and the Final combined score was 173.

KIDD33: Hey Kidd! This will be the 2nd week in a row where I say I'm going to give up cappin' college. One reason is I'm not as good as a lot of others here, so why not go with best bets? I like it, and I'm learning. But when I get a day like yesterday, which was good, except that my NCAA bets went like 1-5, I wonder why I bother. The biggest reason though is time. It takes forever to track all you guys. Then I have to look over 50 games in college. I just don't have the time. What I may end up doing is just tracking 1 or 2 of the smaller conferences, and leaving the rest up to others. Maybe Sunbelt & Big West, or Missouri Valley & Horizon. Who knows? I'll see. I know I like both FB favs today, but not sure if I want to cross the highway in front of convoy called Jets. Although I've got a sneaking suspicion that there will be a major wreck on the highway as those Jet tractor trailers end up jackknifing into a huge pileup. Not sure I'll bet on it though. Good luck.
